The Crew have nabbed a U.S. U-20 national teamer.

MLS allocated United States U-20 Romain Gall to the Columbus Crew, making the 19-year-old the club’s newest member. He will be eligible to play for the team as soon as his International Transfer Certificate is received.

Gall was born in France, but grew up in Virginia and has long been a part of the American youth setup. He played with the U.S. U-20′s last month in the NTC Invitational and also played for the team in 2013. He was a part of the U.S. U-18 team before as well.

Gall comes to the U.S. from FC Lorient, where he had been since 2011. He made it to the club’s reserves last season and scored a goal there, but they let him go and he signed with MLS. He can play either as a winger or as a central attacker, and has been lauded for his pace and quickness.

Odds are that Gall won’t play a ton in the short-term. He is in need of refinement and with Columbus in the middle of a tight playoff race, they don’t have the luxury of letting Gall figure it out in matches right now. But Berhalter and the Crew have shown they can do a good job developing young talent so come next season, Gall may be in a place to compete for playing time next season and make an impact.
