Main Events drops lawsuit against Golden Boy, Showtime, and Haymon

Kathy Duva says that now that there are no damages to seek, she and Main Events have dropped their lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions, Al Haymon, and Showtime.

In the wake of a deal for their fighter, Sergey Kovalev, to face Golden Boy’s Bernard Hopkins in November, Main Events has dropped their lawsuit filed earlier this year against Golden Boy Promotions, Showtime, and Al Haymon, RingTV.com is reporting.

“We’re about to send out a press release. We dropped the charges. We’ve dismissed it. … We’ve got what we wanted,” said Duva. “Sergey wanted the big fight, we’ve got the big fight, and we’ve dismissed the case because, at this point, we don’t have any damages. So, at this point, it’s dismissed.”

Duva had said that the complaint sought “millions” in damages and alleged breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, tortious interference and interference with prospective economic advantage on the part of Stevenson and the above-mentioned entities.

So I guess all the involved parties can thank Bernard Hopkins for signing a fight with Kovalev, which basically got Main Events to lay off their crusade. There’s certainly a lot of suspicion about the way Al Haymon does business in boxing, and his true role as an “adviser,” and whether or not he should really be considered a promoter, and how a lot of things have gone down, including the Adonis Stevenson ordeal, but it always seemed unlikely that this was really going to go anywhere. And at the end of it, the best thing we can get is a good fight. With Kovalev-Hopkins, we have one.

Kovalev-Hopkins will take place in November on HBO.
